Sprint and T-Mobile USA customers may not have to wait that long for a shot at the next iPhone.

Could the next iPhone work on all national carriers?

(Credit: Josh Miller/CNET)

That's according to Piper Jaffray analyst Chris Larsen, the latest to weigh in on the mounting speculation that carriers beyond AT&T and Verizon Wireless will get the next iPhone. Last week, Citadel analyst Shing Yin said he believed Apple would begin selling the iPhone for Sprint later this year.

"While we remain uncertain regarding the next-generation iPhone's specs and features, we believe the most noteworthy change could be the device's ability to run on more networks, specifically Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S," Larsen said in a research note today.

A move to all four national carriers would greatly expand Apple's ability to reach the masses, critical at a time when smartphones running on Google's Android software have overrun the market. Adding Sprint and T-Mobile would increase Apple's addressable market by 30 percent, Larsen said.

The next iPhone is expected to be a universal device. Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo said in April that the next iPhone will be a global device, suggesting that Apple will sell one device to both carriers. Larsen said there are few technical hurdles to ensure the phone is compatible with both Sprint and T-Mobile.

Android Smartphone Users Prefer Buying Apple’s iPad Over Android Tablets

Interesting news coming out of Canaccord Genuity analysts T. Michael Walkley, Charles John and Matthew D. Ramsay today suggests that while Google’s Android smartphones may be popular amongst many buyers, those same customers are turning to Apple to scratch their tablet itch.
The report suggests that current Android smartphone owners are turning their noses up at early Android based tablets such as Samsung’s Galaxy range and Motorola’s Xoom, with Apple reaping the benefits.
”Our smartphone and handset checks indicate iPads are selling better to Android smartphone users than the current Android tablets,”
According to the analysts, things aren’t likely to get better for Android tablet manufacturers any time soon either, with the higher prices of tablet applications likely to dissuade iPad users to make the switch to Android offerings – put simply, people won’t double-dip on apps they already bought on Apple’s App Store.
“we argue consumers purchasing a tablet are more likely to remain in that ecosystem given higher price points for tablet applications. With our checks indicating Android smartphone consumers are choosing the iPad versus Android tablets, we believe this is a powerful trend for Apple’s growing iOS base. Therefore, we anticipate Apple should maintain dominant share of the tablet market in C2011 and C2012.”
The news must make disturbing reading for the likes of Samsung, Motorola and Asus, who are all investing heavily in the Android tablet game.

With Amazon also expected to join the rush to get an Android based slate into the hands of consumers, it’s possible an already under-performing market could become saturated.
One firm likely to do well despite this news is Microsoft. The analysts seem to think they will do well with their upcoming tablet-centric operating system Windows 8, though Microsoft’s Enterprise market is expected to once again be their bread and butter.
If these reports are to be believed, it appears the best way to beat Apple’s tablet dominance is to not compete with them at all. The lucrative business market is still wide open, with Research In Motion’s BlackBerry PlayBook not taking the enterprise by storm as expected.
New Palm owners, HP, are also trying to market their recently-released TouchPad as a business-savvy tablet machine, though the level of success they have here remains to be seen

Leaked photos of Symbian Belle powered Nokia Zeta hit the Internet :O

Lately, the tech world has been abuzz with the rumors of new range of Nokia's Symbian Belle based phones. Adding fuel to the fire, new pictures of Nokia Zeta aka Nokia 700, one of those Symbian Belle based phones, have surfaced, found by KnowYourMobile India. Reports say the device sports a 1GHz processor, a 3.2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 640x360, a front facing VGA camera and 5MP rear camera with LED flash.
Nokia Zeta is also being billed as “the thinnest smartphone ever,” though looking at the some of the offerings in the market right now, it will probably be the thinnest Nokia smartphone ever instead. The device is supposedly also very lightweight, at roughly 80gm.

The smartphone also has NFC connectivity – a new aspect where Nokia seems to be working. The Finnish company recently unveiled Meego based N9 that also sported NFC connectivity. It is rumoured that many of the Symbian Belle powered handsets, especially the higher end ones, come with NFC connectivity features. The Zeta smartphone is allso said to be equipped with 3G support for HSPA speed connectivity options through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The device further offers a storage memory of 32 GB via micro SD card.
It is being speculated that Nokia Zeta will fall under the Nokia's budget smartphone segment. The new Symbian Belle phones apparently show Nokia is not done with Symbian OS even as it gears up for Windows Phone 7 devices. Of late, we have seen a spate of leaked photos of Nokia handsets. And the updated Symbian in Nokia Zeta has only intensified the anticipation.
Nokia Zeta seems to be Nokia's latest attempt to sustain its market share in the affordable smartphone section. With numerous brands joining the bandwagon of low cost smartphones, Nokia is compelled to come up with something really revolutionary in that affordable price range. Nokia Zeta specs are impressive and considering the anticipation it will certainly find some takers. However, it all depends on Nokia how it prices Zeta! If priced correctly, the smartphone is most likely to carve niche in the budget smartphone section.

This iPhone 5 Concept Design Will Blow Your Mind!

Fan-created concepts have always shun a light on what an upcoming product might look like, and this one isn’t an exception. Brazilian Graphics Design student Schasiepen Guilherme Martins has created a concept of what the next iPhone should look like, based on the various reports that have come out of the rumor mill over the last few months.
iPhone 5 China Mobile
As you can tell from the pictures below, the concept alludes to many of the rumored enhancements mentioned over the last few months. The design looks significantly thinner than the current iPhone, just like recent rumors have pointed to, and the screen is 4-inches-large, without visibly increasing the size of the device from what we could tell from the pictures.  There’s also an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video shooting capabilities, as most reports have pointed to, and an HD camera on the front. In order to address low reception complaints, Martins also predicts a new antenna placement in order to stop calls from dropping unexpectedly, even when the phone isn’t “held properly”.

Reports of a larger screen have started surfacing ever since then a Chinese website claimed to have obtained concepts of the next-generation iPhone. Although bigger, the screen isn’t expected to increase the device’s size. Instead, it will eliminate the bezel around it. A larger screen won’t only provide more real-estate for the Home Screen and other apps, but it will also make watching video on the device a lot more pleasant.
These concepts seem to bridge reports that the next iPhone won’t look any different from the current one with those that claim that there will be a complete case redesign. In fact, a design like this could exactly be what Apple is thinking of going for: not a radical new design, but some changes to the current one in order to remain competitive in the smartphone market.
The next iPhone, rumored to be named either iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S, is expected to be introduced by Apple in September and released soon after. The new device is expected to include iOS 5, currently in beta stage and expected to come out in its final form later this year, as well as several hardware upgrades, mainly a dual-A5 processor and an 8-megapixel camera.

Android 3.1 Honeycomb update for Acer Iconia Tab A500 delayed for Indian users.

The Android 3.1 Honeycomb update for the Acer Iconia Tab A500 has just been released internationally, but will be arriving in India only by the end of this month. According to company representative in India, the reason for the delayed arrival is one that we've heard before – most Indian service providers do not regularly support over-the-air (OTA) updates. However, it must be noted, a direct download of Acer's update, or desktop-based update software should have been made available instead, quite simply over Wi-Fi, if OTA is so hard. Especially since not all customers would necessarily insert an operator-tied 3G SIM in their device, especially in India, where contract based deals are not so popular. The update, when it arrives, will probably be via a Wi-Fi based method.
Android 3.1 Honeycomb brings a number of improvements over v3.0, including resizable widgets, increased USB peripheral support, improved task manager and app launcher, and more.
